A Keeril Makan Premiere, Conducted by Richard Carrick

Boston has always been a strong home for new music, and this weekend, across the Charles River, MIT hosts the world premiere of Keeril Makan's Letting Time Circle Through Us, for percussion, cimbalom, acoustic guitar, piano, violin, and cello. Makan's meditative, crystalline music has been recorded by ICE, the Kronos Quartet, and the Either/Or Ensemble-- and on Saturday, April 5th, fellow PSNY composer Richard Carrick leads the Either/Or ensemble in the performance of Makan's new piece. No stranger to performing Makan's work, Either/Or has recorded several of his works, and are a Visiting Artist ensemble at MIT for the 2013-2014 season. Check out some of our favorite works be Keeril Makan over at his Soundcloud page

Richard Carrick is also releasing a new CD on New Focus Recordings of compositions for solo electric guitar, entitled Stone Guitars. A preview of material on the forthcoming album can be seen below.

Carrick & Rosenberger Performances This Week!

The new year is shaping up to be a busy time for our PSNY composers, with world premieres abounding! For New York audiences, the Woodwind Quartet DZ4  performs the World Premiere of Richard Carrick's "sub-merge" on January 28th at the Greenwich House Music School

And for those on the West Coast, be sure to catch Katharina Rosenberger's installation, "Viva Voce," at Human Resources Gallery in Los Angeles! This project, a collaboration with video artist Heiko Kalmback, features interactive video, audience-controlled playback, and performances by Juilana Snapper, Pamela Z, and Shelley Hirsch. Check out Katharina's Vimeo page for video excerpts of this piece. And while you're at it, spend some time with this excerpt from her work "Scatter 2.0", available from PSNY:

New Works for Summer

Ah, summer. The classical music season is over, mostly, and we're looking forward to festival performances-- often places where programmers take more chances and choose some more adventurous pieces to play. We've been slowly (and surely) building up our roster here at Project Schott New York, now with over 160 works by 40+ composers.

Have you checked out Keeril Makan's page recently? We now have 14 works up, including five solo works and nine for ensembles! Keeril's "Resonance Alloy" was just performed in San Diego by David Shively; here he is performing it in 2011:

Other new works include his string quartet, "The Noise Between Thoughts," "Voice Within Voice" for baritone saxophone, and "Target" for soprano/mezzo-soprano and ensemble. Check 'em out!

Speaking of saxophone, Richard Carrick's "Harmonixity" for saxophone quartet is also now available:

We also now have a staggering 22 works available from Lei Liang, including "Piano, Piano" for improvising pianist, and "Ascension", for brass quintet and percussion..

Well, I hope that's enough to chew on for now! Stay tuned for an amazing announcement, coming up tomorrow....
