David T. Little at the Metropolitan Opera

David T. Little, whose works Sweet Light Crude, Raw Power, and Last Nightfall are available through PSNY has been chosen by the Metropolitan Opera and Lincoln Center Theater to be a collaborator in the recently formed Met/LCT New Works Program. This program, which helped develop Nico Muhly's Two Boys to critical acclaim, pairs composers with librettists to develop works for eventual production at the Metropolitan Opera or Lincoln Center Theater. Little has had a flurry of activity surrounding his larger projects in the past few years; his opera Dog Days, critically acclaimed by the New York Times, was recently produced by Beth Morrison Projects in Montclair, NJ; another work, Soldier Songs, was performed at Pace University in early 2013

Check out this video of excerpts from Dog Days to get an idea of Little's work:

We're eagerly following David's website to see what's coming up next for him-- keep an eye out for some fantastic projects in the near future!

New Music Mondays: Ken Ueno

Another week, another new piece of music available from PSNY: Ken Ueno's Visible Remainder of Invisible Light. Unfamiliar with Ueno? Check out this video for a brief introduction:

Ueno's work explores a wide spectrum of instrumentation, including his own voice; Visible Remainder of Invisible Light, for Piano Trio, continues Ueno's exploration of traces, materiality, and resonance. Its title taken from a poem by T.S. Eliot, Visible Remainder of Invisible Light was inspired by Ueno's observations of "secret meridians" of light, in spaces both sacred and quotidian. The work has already been performed in New York, San Fransisco, and Seoul, South Korea. If you're new to Ueno's work, this is a great way in.

New Music Mondays: Phil Kline, Douglas J. Cuomo

Time for another installment of New Music Mondays, that joyous day of the week when we make even more new works available through PSNY! Since our launch in November 2011, we've made over two hundred and fifty works available as digital downloads, and this week we add some more to our roster: two arias from Douglas J. Cuomo's opera Doubt, and the full score to Phil Kline's Out Cold, for voice and ensemble.

"The Boy's Nature" and "The Doubt Sermon", for mezzo-soprano and baritone, respectively, are two celebrated arias from Cuomo's 2013 opera, Doubt, which was commissioned and premiered by the Minnesota Opera with a libretto by John Patrick Shanley, after his Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The play was also adapted into a film in 2008.

Phil Kline's Out Cold is a 45-minute song cycle for voice and ensemble, which the composer calls "a cycle of torch songs, written under the influence of Schubert, Sinatra, and Nelson Riddle." Commissioned by American Opera Projects, this cycle premiered at BAM in 2012.

Selections from Out Cold can be seen here:
