On October 13, Lahav Shani leads the Bamberger Symphoniker in the world premiere performances of Alexander Goehr’s Two Sarabands at the Heinrich-Lades-Halle in Erlangen, Germany.
Goehr’s Two Sarabands, commissioned by the Bamberger Symphoniker, maintains the original rhythm of the traditional sarabande (a dance in triple time) and revisits musical material found in his earlier Seven Impromptus, for two pianos, which took inspiration from variation 20 of Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations. The new orchestral sarabands are written to be performed either together or separately as stand-alone works.
