World Premiere of Ryan Wigglesworth's The Winter's Tale at English National Opera

On February 27, the English National Opera presents the world premiere production of Ryan Wigglesworth’s The Winter’s Tale, the long-awaited culmination of his composer residency with the company. The stellar cast includes Iain Paterson, Sophie Bevan, Leigh Melrose, Anthony Gregory, Susan Bickley, Samantha Price, Neal Davies and Timothy Robinson. Ryan Wigglesworth conducts, with direction by Rory Kinnear and set design by Vicki Mortimer.

The Winter’s Tale marks Wigglesworth’s first opera, a luminous, persuasive retelling of Shakespeare’s classic play. His natural sense for dramatic narrative brings clarity to this tragedy-turned-romance, its brooding opening act unfolding gradually into a light-hearted scherzo. As director, Olivier Award-winning actor Rory Kinnear brings his considerable Shakespearean experience to the production.

Wigglesworth and Kinnear elaborate on the development of The Winter's Tale:

Five performances run from February 27 to March 14 at the London Coliseum.
