Russian Premiere of Victoria Borisova-Ollas’s and Elias Faingersh’s Hamlet
Dec. 06, 2017
On December 19, Pyotr Belyakin will lead the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra in the Russian premiere of Victoria Borisova-Ollas’s and Elias Faingersh’s Hamlet for trombone and orchestra, featuring the Swedish trombone virtuoso, Elia Faingersh, as soloist. The concert takes place at the Arnold Kats State Hall in Novosibirsk as part of the XII International Christmas Festival of Arts. The work was commissioned by the Malmö Symfoniorkester which premiered it in 2008 under conductor Lawrence Renes, with Faingersh as the soloist. In this work, the soloist is not simply an instrumentalist, but also an actor in Shakespeare’s great drama. Faingersh ‘acts’ out the play on stage, interacting with both the musicians and the audience and transforming this orchestral work into a musical dialogue.
