US Premiere of Matthias Pintscher’s <em>Chute d’Étoiles</em> by The Cleveland Orchestra

Presented in partnership with the Lucerne Festival, Carnegie Hall and The Cleveland Orchestra, Matthias Pintscher’s Chute d’Étoiles (“Falling Stars”) arrives in Cleveland for its US premiere performances at Severance Hall on November 8 and 10. The sixth Roche Commission, Chute d’Étoiles was premiered at the Lucerne Festival 2012 by The Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst in August, and, as is customary with all Roche Commissions, the work will be performed in both Cleveland and in New York. The New York performances take place at Carnegie Hall on November 13, 2012.

Chute d’Étoiles takes its title from a work by German artist Anselm Kiefer previously exhibited at the Monumenta 2007 exhibition in Paris. The work’s depiction of seven houses and three sculptures is a meditation on humanity’s divine connection with the cosmos. Pintscher elaborates, “We are made up of elements of the cosmos. And so we carry within ourselves the infinitely large as well as the infinitely small.”
