Orchestra of the Swan Premieres Huw Watkins's Little Symphony
Jun. 03, 2013

The Orchestra of the Swan (UK) concludes its season and its Spring Sounds series with the world premiere of Huw Watkins’s new work for string orchestra, Little Symphony, on June 21. Written as part of his “Composer-in-the-House” residency with the ensemble, the new work is conducted by David Curtis and will be preceded by a pre-concert chat with the composer.
Also in June, Huw Watkins see a performance by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales of his Violin Concerto featuring soloist Alina Ibragimova on June 28. The 18-minute, three-movement work was created for Ibragimova as a natural outgrowth of her collaboration with Watkins when they participated in the BBC New Generation Artist project, for which Watkins composed the solo violin work Partita. The subsequent Violin Concerto premiered at the 2010 BBC Proms led by Thomas Søndergård, who conducts the June 28 performance.
