- Beginning January 1, 2009, Schott Music Corporation/European American Music Distributors LLC is the sole North American agent for the entire Bärenreiter hire catalogue, including all contemporary and classical stage and concert works.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen perform the world premiere of Arvo Pärt's Symphony No. 4, "Los Angeles", on January 10. American Opera Projects and Works & Process at the Guggenheim present two performances of Pärt's L'abbé Agathon, sung by soprano Lauren Flaniganin a world premiere staging featuring the work of the visual artist Sophie Calle on January 11 and 12.
- Andrew Norman sees the world premiere of his work for solo viola, Sabina, performed by Nokuthula Ngwenyama at Merkin Concert Hall on December 10. The work is performed alongside the US premiere of Norman's Lullaby, for mezzo-soprano and piano, featuring mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke.
