within the fourth wall for string quartet, takes as its main influence the concept of "the fourth wall" or the "breaking of the fourth wall" found initially in the performing arts but also developed in different visual and literary media. It refers to the direct interaction of the actors with the audience and the fictionalization of the actors. However, this piece refers to the interaction between the members of the quartet, their hierarchies, and behaviors, and not with the audience itself.
The quartet is composed through a series of instrumental interactions and behaviors, which allow the performer to participate in determining small-scale formal elements that, in turn, fluctuate the textural/harmonic movement of the work. This technique aims to create a sense of formal plasticity. These interactions are possible thanks to a type of score that combines the mobility of semi-modular writing with measured writing, in combination with "loops" or repetitions of short duration.
As a result, within the fourth wall generates a chain of temporal ambivalences in which the four instrumental lines interact while simultaneously consolidating a macro instrumental sound.
