Zen-On Publishes New Works by Kaori Nabeshima and Shin-ichiro Ikebe

Mar. 07, 2022

On March 15, Zen-On will publish two new works by Kaori Nabeshima and Shin-ichiro Ikebe. Kaori Nabeshima's Splash Dance, for saxophone quartet, was commissioned by the 3rd Horsepia Music Festival and premiered at Sun Life Haramachi in the Fukushima Prefecture (Japan) under the baton of Nobuya Sugawa. The composer notes:

"The piece begins with an atonal melody in an irregular jazzy meter and a style combining elements of both modern jazz and contemporary classical music. The central section features a repetitive melodic exchange between the instruments. The energy then mounts until the piece ends with the reappearance of the opening melody.

Splash Dance was performed for a second time at the Japan Saxophone Festival in 1999 and has subsequently featured in ensemble competitions at festivals throughout Japan."
