Jun. 27, 2018
On August 31, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra performs the world premiere of Jörg Widmann's Violinkonzert Nr. 2 at Suntory Hall, Tokyo with the composer conducting. The work was written for his sister, violinist Carolin Widmann, who will give the world premiere performance. The Orchestre de Paris and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony co-commissioned the work. Several national premieres are scheduled for the upcoming season and will take place in Paris on September 26-27, in Frankfurt on December 14, and in Stockholm, Sweden by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra on April 25-26.
Widmann's most recent work, Tanz an dem Vulkan, a farewell piece for Sir Simon Rattle who conducted his final concert as Principal Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic in June, received its world premiere in May and was performed several times throughout Europe last month.
