World Premiere of Jörg Widmann's Orchestrated Version of <em>Das heiße Herz</em>

Jörg Widmann composed his first large-scale song cycle, Das heiße Herz, for Christian Gerhaher and his accompanist Gerold Huber in 2013. After a long search for suitable poems, he landed upon texts by Klabund, Brentano, Härtling, and Heine noting that, "‘Their radically simple and truthful texts go straight to the heart."

For his new orchestral version of Das heiße Herz, Widmann created new tonal colors that add a further level to these profound songs. The world premiere will be sung by Christian Gerhaher on April 26 with the Bamberger Symphoniker under the direction of Jakub Hrůša. The Bamberger Symphoniker gives repeat performances of the work on April 27 and April 29 and on May 1 in Essen at the Philharmonie Alfried Krupp Saal.
