UK and Croatian Premieres of Richard Ayres's The Garden

UK and Croatian Premieres of Richard Ayres's The Garden

Richard Ayres's No. 50 (The Garden) recieves two national premieres in April 2019. The first of the two took place on April 6, as part of the Zagreb Music Biennale in Croatia. The work sees its UK debut in London at the Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall on April 17. The London Sinfonietta, led by conductor Geoffrey Paterson and bass Joshua Bloom gave the Croatian premiere and will peform the UK premiere as well. About his work, Ayres writes:

"Inspired by Hieronymus Bosch and Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, [my] semi-staged concert work The Garden is an irreverent and darkly comical tale about a discontented man in search of meaning. He digs from his garden down towards the centre of the earth to find hell, then all the way back up again to heaven, only to find himself back in his garden once more."
