Toshi Ichiyanagi's <em>Double Concerto</em> Premieres with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra

On October 30, conductor Yoichi Sugiyama leads the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of Toshi Ichiyanagi’s Double Concerto for violin, cello and orchestra. The performance features violinist Tatsuki Narita and cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi as soloists and takes place at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. The program is part of the Suntory Foundation for the Arts' renowned "Profile of a Composer Series", now in its 36th year.

The program also includes performances of Ichiyanagi’s Piano Concerto No. 3 “Cross Water Roads” featuring soloist Kaori Kimura, who premiered the work in 1991 with the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, as well as Joji Yuasa’s Piano Concertino with pianist Momo Kodama and Chronoplastic II – Homage à Edgar Varèse for orchestra.

On November 3, Ichiyanagi’s Concerto for Marima and Orchestra receives a performance at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany, conducted by Florian Ludwig with soloist Kiyohiko Kudo.
