Thierry Pécou's <em>Auvèrnha</em> for Cabrette and String Orchestra debuts with Orchestre d'Auvergne

On June 10Thierry Pécou receives the world premiere of his new concerto Auvèrnha for solo cabrette (traditional Auvergne bagpipe) and string orchestra with the Orchestre d’Auvergne. Roberto Florés Veces leads the orchestra with soloist Jacques Puech at the Opéra-Théâtre de Clermont-Ferrand, in a program celebrating the traditional music of the region.

Pécou’s Auvèrnha was co-commissioned by the Orchestre d’Auvergne and AMTA, the Agency of Music of the Territories of Auvergne, which promotes and preserves Auvergnese traditional music. The idea for the concerto was inspired by a recent book by André Ricros which chronicles the genesis of the cabrette, linking it closely to the region’s culture and history. Like many of Pécou's works, Auvèrnha explores the sonic and cultural identities within the region's folk music and recontextualizes them within contemporary forms.
