The "World of Joji Yuasa" at Merkin Hall
Mar. 01, 2007

On March 3 the ensemble Music from Japan will present a program exclusively comprised of the music of Joji Yuasa in their “The World of Joji Yuasa” program. Featuring both early and recent works of Yuasa, the concert aims to illuminate Yuasa’s compositional progression. By also commissioning Yuasa for a new work in Five Haiku from Buson, for mezzo-soprano and chamber ensemble, the composer’s current compositional mind will also be on display. Of its aims for the concert, Music from Japan comments:
“In his composing, [Joji Yuasa] has sought a primordial and universal language that transcends culture. Music from Japan hopes to give the New York audience a greater understanding of this language and its development through both a pre-concert lecture by the composer and the concert program.”
