The Barbican Centre Announces Thomas Adès Focus in 2020-21

The Barbican Centre in London has announced a major focus on the music of Thomas Adès running throughout its 2020-21 season, featuring performances of more than ten of the composer's works from September 13-June 28. Celebrating Adès’s 50th birthday in 2021, it is the largest UK celebration of his music since the ‘Traced Overhead’ festival in 2007.

The celebratory season will include a world premiere of a new work for the Australian Chamber Orchestra, while The Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst will give the London premiere of the Exterminating Angel Symphony. Simon Rattle opens the London Symphony Orchestra’s season with the Luxury Suite from Powder Her Face, and Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra perform Adès’s now iconic Asyla

Gustavo Dudamel will present a concert performance of all three parts of Adès’s Dante ballet with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, while Adès himself conducts Totentanz with the LSO, a late-night concert with the LA Phil New Music Group, and a concert performance of his second opera The Tempest with Britten Sinfonia.
