Syotaro Miyamoto’s Trine Sketch Published by Zen-On

On November 15, a new publication of Syotaro Miyamoto’s Trine Sketch for trumpet, horn, and trombone, was published by Zen-On. The first performance of the piece was given at a concert of original works and arrangements by Syotaro Miyamoto at the Suginami Public Hall in Tokyo on April 8, 2018, with Yoshihiko Shigei on trumpet, Makoto Yanagiya on horn, and Ko Aoki on trombone. Triune Sketch is approximately ten minutes in duration and consists of four movements:

I. Mizutama-biyori (Weather for Dewdrops; 1’50”)

Solos I to II: Hizunda Yoru No Mori (Distorted Evening Forest; 2’30”)

Solos II to III: Melodious Time; (3’50”)

Solos III to IV: Finale (1’50”)

Syotaro Miyamoto notes:

“Composed in 2018, Trine Sketch was first performed in a concert of my works held in April that year. The performers on that occasion were Yoshihiko Shigei (trumpet), Makoto Yanagiya (horn) and Ko Aoki (trombone). The works by Poulenc and Václav Nelhýbel for this combination of instruments are relatively well known, and both are pleasurable pieces characterized by their lightness, stylishness and wit. I decided to try and compose a work in a similar vein. The four short pieces are interspersed and divided by solos that lead into different worlds. Each is written in the style of a different period, and my aim was to convey a light touch by bringing these styles together.”
