Productions of Bizet's Carmen at Santa Fe Opera and Glimmerglass Use Bärenreiter's Outstanding Critical Edition

This summer, Santa Fe Opera and Glimmerglass present Georges Bizet's seminal masterwork of the lyric stage, Carmen, utilizing performing materials from Baerenreiter's critical edition of the opera, which includes recitatives later composed by Ernest Guiraud. Santa Fe Opera's production, running from July 1-August 27, is directed by Mariame Clément and conducted by Harry Bicket with Isabel Leonard in the title role. Matthew White and Michael Fabiano share duties as Don José and Michael Sumuel is Escamillo.  

The Glimmerglass Festival's production of Carmen runs from July 16-August 21, directed by Denyce Graves and conducted by Joseph Colaneri with Briana Hunter in the title role. This is a co-production with Minnesota Opera, which presented the opera last season.
