Opening Night with <em>Carmina Burana</em>

What better way to launch the season than with the one of the best known choral works of the 20th century—Carl Orff’s beloved and ebullient Carmina Burana. In a testament to the work's continued appeal, and in celebration of its 80th anniversary this season, orchestras across the country are doing just that.

Throughout September, several orchestras kick-off the concert season with Orff’s life-affirming cantata, with performances by the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, conducted by Kent Nagano (September 7-10), the San Antonio Symphony, with Sebastian Lang-Lessing conducting (September 16-18), the New Mexico Philharmonic, led by Roger Melone (September 16) and concluding with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop (September 29-October 1).

Carmina Burana, arguably one of the most recognizable classical works of all time, never fails to shock and delight audiences. Scored for soprano, tenor, and baritone soloists with mixed and boy’s choirs and full orchestra, the work is an unsurpassed musical experience that continues to thrill with its exhilarating rhythms and kaleidoscopic melodies.
