Matthew Hindson's <em>Siegfried "Interlude No. 1"</em> with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass delivers a performance of Matthew Hindson’s Siegfried “Interlude No. 1” on December 18. The performance takes place at Chicago’s Symphony Center in collaboration with the Midwest Clinic, an international band and orchestra conference. 

Hindson’s Siegfried “Interlude No. 1” is a short work for brass ensemble and optional percussion. Commissioned by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the work was premiered as an opening to the orchestra’s season in 2000. Of the work, Hindson writes: 

[Siegfried “Interlude No. 1”] uses themes from Wagner’s Siegfried (Acts 1 and 2), rearranging them in different ways, including an almost-James-Bond-esque manner. It is inspired by the march that is often played as an interval theme at performances of Siegfried in Europe.
