Kenji Sakai Portrait Concert With Club MoCo in Kyoto

Club MoCo at Kyoto City University of Arts will present a Kenji Sakai portrait concert on August 2 at Aoyama Music Memorial Hall (Baroque Hall) in Kyoto. Sakai is the winner of the 2022 Aoyama Music Prize, and this concert serves to commemorate that award. The concert, titled "Club MoCo Meets Virtuosi," features performances by Koichi Komine, principal violist of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra and Eri Matsumura, harpist in the same orchestra, and other esteemed musicians. Works to be performed include Sakai's Melodia Labile for soprano saxophone and piano (2018), Echoes / Encore II, for viola and harp (2022),  String Quartet No.1 “Floating Phase” (2023), Ritornello in Blue for wind trio (2018), Spiral in Blue for wind quintet (2016), and En bleu et blanc for wind quintet and piano (2022), as well as the world premieres of the complete Etudes pour Piano – deuxlème livre (2016 / 2024), and Charm / Ugly für Beckmesser Harfe (2022 /2024).

Club MoCo is the contemporary music research group of Kyoto City University of Arts. “MoCo” stands for Modernism & Contemporary Music.
