Julian Anderson's <em>In lieblicher Bläue</em> Debuts with Carolin Widmann and the London Philharmonic Orchestra

Julian Anderson’s violin concerto In lieblicher Bläue receives its world premiere on March 14 at London’s Royal Festival Hall with Vladimir Jurowski leading the London Philharmonic Orchestra and soloist Carolin Widmann. The US premiere follows on June 11 with Widmann and the Seattle Symphony, conducted by Ludovic Morlot. 

Commissioned by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Seattle Symphony, Julian Anderson’s In lieblicher Bläue – his first ever concerto – extends the conventional exploration of relationships to the spacial. Beginning off stage, the soloist’s physical location changes throughout the work, altering the dynamic between soloist, orchestra, and conductor. The work was written especially for Carolin Widmann and follows the composer’s residency with the London Philharmonic Orchestra from 2010-2014.
