Composer Portrait: Music of Rihm at Festival Présences

The 2019 Festival Présences, held in Paris, honors composer Wolfgang Rihm in a series of portrait concerts featuring multiple world and national premieres. 

Rihm's presence at Festival Présences 2019 begins on February 12 with the world premiere of Klavierstück n° 5 featuring pianist Bertrand Chamayou. Following this performance, the Ensemble Court-Circuit will give the French premiere of Rihm's Blick auf Kolchis on February 13

Next, Rihm's Zwei Linien will be heard in a solo recital given by pianist Nicholas Hodges on February 14. On the same day, the Orchestre National de France will present the French premieres of 2. Klavierkonzert and Transitus in an evening concert. The orchestra is led by conductor Nicholas Collon and will feature pianist Tzimon Barto performing the concerto. 

Then, on February 15, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Choeur de Radio France will perform the French premieres of De Profundis as well as IN-SCHRIFT 2under the direction of conductor Alejo Pérez. 

Subsequently, on February 16, Quatuor Diotima and accordion player Teodoro Anzellotti will perform excerpts of Rihm's Fetzen for accordion and String QuartetFetzen 3, Fetzen 5, Fetzen 6, Fetzen 7, Fetzen 8

Lastly, on February 17, violinist Alexandra Greffin-Klein will perform Rihm's Über die Linie VII. This concert will also end with the French premiere of Duomonolog for violin and cello, featuring cellist Alexis Descharmes.

Also of great interest is the world premiere of Jay Schwartz'sMusic for Cello, which will take place at the Festival on February 17. This performance again features cellist Alexis Descharmes, to whom the piece is dedicated.
