Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Premieres Christopher Cerrone's Brass Concerto A Body, Moving
Apr. 01, 2021
The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Louis Langrée premieres Christopher Cerrone's A Body, Moving – a concerto for trumpet and trombone – on April 9 with additional performances on April 10-11. Audiences will have the opportunity to experience the performances in person or online. The performances feature principal trumpet Robert Sullivan and principal tuba Chris Olka, and the work was inspired by a poem by Natalie Diaz, “Isn’t the air also a body, moving?”. The composer says:
"A Body, Moving features the intrepid brass section of the Cincinatti Symphony Orchestra. The two soloists are joined by a trio of offstage brass to surround the audience with stereophonic sound. The work is often rhythmic, with cascading solo parts against a polyrhythmic orchestra. At other times it is lyrical and gentle. It reflects the restless energy, anxiety, and elegiac feelings of the Covid era."
Additionally, Christopher Cerrone's new album, The Arching Path, is available for pre-order. It will be released on May 21 by In a Circle Records. The album features The Arching Path, Double Happiness, I Will Learn to Love a Person, and Hoyt-Schermerhorn. Preview and pre-order the disc now via Bandcamp.
