Beat Furrer’s Gaspra Sees its American Premiere in New York

Apr. 01, 2006

Red Light New Music, a new New York organization dedicated to presenting contemporary works of European and American composers, is set to perform the American premiere of the Beat Furrer chamber ensemble work Gaspra on April 23. The program also features the work Liasons by Roman Haubenstock-Ramati, one of Beat Furrer’s composition teachers, offering multiple lenses through which to view Furrer’s musical world. Scott Wollschleger, Artistic Director of Red Light New Music, sees the unique potentials of such a world to be the focal point of Gaspra. He writes:

Furrer's compositions demonstrate an extremely high level of craftsmanship and artistic vision. This vision also contains a critical reassessment of performance practice and instrumental technique. Gaspra reconfigures traditional concepts about ensemble/solo writing and musical time-space.

The proper time and space to hear Gaspra is April 23, 2006 at The Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew in New York City.
