Another Success for Kurt Weill’s Der Silbersee: A Musically “Elegant Touch” in Weimar

Kurt Weill and Georg Kaiser's Der Silbersee has enjoyed a string of notable revival productions in recent years. January 2023 saw yet another success, this time produced by Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar. Reviewing in the Neue Musikzeitung, Roland H. Dippel enthuses:

“Conductor Friedrich Praetorius has an elegant touch for Kurt Weill. With the Staatskapelle Weimar, he develops sounds not commonly heard in performances of Weill’s works. Rarely do you hear the wind solos and vocals so beautifully layered, sometimes with a dash of spicy perfume and so completely without the smell of the gutter. This allows the music to escape the heaviness of conventional interpretations.”
