Alvin Singleton's <em>After Fallen Crumbs</em> with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra

On January 18, conductor Tsung Yeh leads the South Bend Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Alvin Singleton’s After Fallen Crumbs. The performance takes place at the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend, Indiana as part of the orchestra’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Concert.

After Fallen Crumbs was commissioned for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra by the Meet The Composer Residencies Program. It was premiered and subsequently recorded in 1988 by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Michael Palmer.

Dedicated to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, the work’s title derives from that of Singleton’s earlier work for male choir, Fallen Crumbs, which treats the subject of world hunger and closes with the composer's quote of the Hindu proverb “An ant can feed a family with the fallen crumbs of an elephant.”
