Landestheater Linz Presents Weill's <em>Seven Deadly Sins</em> and <em>Zaubernacht</em>

Describing The Seven Deadly Sins as the “dark mirror” of the children’s pantomime Zaubernacht, Landestheater Linz pairs these two Weill dance works for the first time in an evening that begins with the magical dream of Zaubernacht and concludes with the nightmarish journey of the Sins. Directed and choreographed by Jochen Ulrich and conducted by Dennis Russell Davies, the new ballets premiere October 15 and run through January 30. Rock legend Marianne Faithfull sings Anna I in the Sins.

Based on a now-lost scenario involving toys coming to life for a night, Zaubernacht premiered in Berlin in 1922. The orchestration went missing in 1925, but after a sensational rediscovery in 2006 became the basis for a new critical edition (Kurt Weill Edition, Series I, Volume 0), which recently enjoyed premieres in the U.S. at the Ravinia Festival and in the U.K. at the Royal Opera House.
