Zygmunt Krauze and Krzysztof Cicheński's The Wedding Premiered in Poland

On November 22, Zygmunt Krauze and Krzysztof Cicheński's opera, The Wedding was premiered at the Poznań Opera House in Poland. The production was led by music director, Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, a skilled interpreter of contemporary repertoire, and directed by Cicheński who has been exploring theatrical spaces between dramatic and opera theaters for years. The opera forces audiences to question  the very essence of their understanding and perception of the world around them. "Are we to, just like the main character of the story, Henryk, forsake all ideas, shake out of slumber, and assert that the reality surrounding us is nothing but a nightmare?"

Zygmunt Krauze (1938-) is an important artist of his generation: one of the leading Polish composers at the cusp of the 20th and 21st centuries, valued pianist, educator, organizer of musical events and a judge in many international competitions. His artistic achievements and efforts in the promotion of music have been recognized with many awards and distinctions, including the French National Order of the Legion of Honour (2007) and the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (1984). 

The Wedding is an opera adaptation of one of the essential dramas by Witold Gombrowicz, commissioned by the Poznań Opera House (Poland), and it's premiere marks the first time that Zygmunt Krauze has worked with the opera house in Poznań. Krzysztof Cicheński, who has been exploring theatrical spaces between dramatic and opera theaters for years, wrote the libretto and directed the performance, and the music director Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, has numerous contemporary productions in her repertoire, making her an exceptional collaborator to help bring this new work to life.
