Zen-On Publishes Seven Musical Works from Two Decades of NHK's Popular Taiga Dramas

On July 15, Zen-On published seven musical works from popular "Taiga Dramas," NHK's popular and prestigious annual television series which began in 1963. A staple of Japanese broadcasting, each year-long production is based on an historical drama, often adapted from a novel, and features a unique creative team with music performed by the NHK symphony orchestra. This recent batch of publications include Taiga Drama themes from 1964-1984 by Yasushi Akutagawa, Mitsumasa Yoda, Akira Miyoshi, Naozumi Yamamoto, and Hikaru Hayashi.

Mitsumasa Yoda's Momi no Ki wa Nokottais the theme song for the eighth Taiga Drama, "Momi no Ki wa Nokotta" (1970).

Haru no Sakamichi by Akira Miyoshi comes from the ninth NHK Taiga Drama, "Haru no Sakamichi" (1971) and requires robust percussion forces.

Naozumi Yamamoto's Kaze to Kumo to Niji to (1976) is from the fourteenth Taiga Drama, "Kaze to Kumo to Niji to."

Hikaru Hayashi has composed for several Taiga Dramas, including Kunitori Monogatari from "Kunitori Monogatari" (1973), the 11th NHK Taiga Drama, Kashin from the fifteenth NHK Taiga Drama, "Kashin," and Sanga Moyu from the twenty-second NHK Taiga Drama, "Sanga Moyu" (1984).
