World Premieres of Three New Works by Dobrinka Tabakova

On March 11, Harry Christophers led The Sixteen in world premiere performances of Dobrinka Tabakova's choral works: Arise Lord into thy rest and Turn our captivity. The premieres, commissioned by The Sixteen, are presented as part of the ensemble's 2023 Choral Pilgrimage which celebrates the 400th anniverary of the death of the acclaimed Renaissance composer, William Byrd. During their Pilgrimage, The Sixteen will present Byrd's most moving works and introduce audiences to the music of his influences and colleagues, bringing his legacy firmly into the modern day with the world premiere of two specially commissioned works by Dobrinka Tabakova.

In addition, on March 5, the Hallé Youth Orchestra performed the world premiere of Tabakova's Swarm Fanfares at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.
