World Premiere of Shin-ichiro Ikebe's Symphony No. 10 with Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra

On January 29, Tadaaki Otaka leads the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra in the world premiere of Shin-ichiro Ikebe’s Symphony No. 10 “For the Coming Era”. With this work, which was commissioned by the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Ikebe has composed more symphonies than any other Japanese composer. The premiere takes place at the Hitachi Systems Hall in Sendai City, Japan.

The concert, titled “Japanese Contemporary Composers – Looking Back”, honors the memory and legacy of Toru Takemitsu on the 20th anniversary of his death. In addition to Ikebe’s Symphony No. 10 are several works by Takemitsu, including Far Calls. Coming, far! for violin and orchestra with soloist Alex Shiozaki, and Family Tree for narrator and string orchestra with narrator Kie Nakai.

Details on the performance can be found at sendaiphil.jp.
