World Premiere of Robert Beaser's Song of the Ascents

World Premiere of Robert Beaser's <em>Song of the Ascents</em>

On February 1, Robert Beaser’s new choral work Song of the Ascents receives its premiere performance with Earl Rivers leading the choir of the Knox Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. Commissioned by Soli Deo Gloria as part of its Psalms Project, Beaser’s work is a setting of Psalm 121, the second biblical “Song of Ascents”, scored for SATB chorus and organ.

In conjunction with the premiere, the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) hosts Beaser for a performance of his Seven Deadly Sins on January 30 with Mark Gibson leading the CCM Philharmonia. The piece, a setting of poetry by Anthony Hecht for baritone and orchestra, has been called “as sumptuous as the indulgences it purports to banish” (Bret Johnson, Tempo). The performance takes place at the Corbett Auditorium.
