World Premiere of Gavin Bryars’s The Collected Works of Billy the Kid

Feb. 27, 2018

World Premiere of Gavin Bryars’s The Collected Works of Billy the Kid

On March 6, Les Percussions Claviers de Lyon with soprano Claron McFadden and baritone Bertrand Belin present the world premiere of Gavin Bryars’s The Collected Works of Billy the Kid at the Théâtre de la Croix-Rousse in Lyon. Gérard Lecointe conducts and Jean Lacornerie directs Bryars's new one-act chamber opera. The dramatic depiction of life in the early American West is captured in a libretto by Jean Lacornerie based on the book by Michael Ondaatje with translations by Michel Lederer. Combining eye-witness accounts, photos, newspaper articles, and fantasy, the piece blurs the lines between fact and fiction, biography and mythology to create a compelling new operatic work.
