World Premiere of Gavin Bryars's Requiem at the Dutch National Ballet
Feb. 01, 2019
On February 9, the Dutch National Ballet performs the world premiere of Gavin Bryars's Requiem for orchestra, chorus, and vocal soloists. Requiem is a large scale setting of liturgical texts in ten parts. Commissioned by the Dutch National Ballet, Requiem is choreographed by the Ballet’s associate artist David Dawson who has created a full evening ballet, exploring the passing of time and the essence of faith as a fundamental belief in life. This will be the third time Bryars and Dawson have worked together, with previous collaborations including most recently The Third Light for the Ballet Vlaanderen in Antwerp.
