World Premiere of Alexander Goehr's <em>Vanishing Word</em> at the 2016 Juilliard FOCUS! Festival

The 2016 Juilliard FOCUS! Festival rings in the New Year with the world premiere of Alexander Goehr’s Vanishing Word on January 22 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in New York. 

Originally written for two voices and piano, Vanishing Word is a 25-minute work in 12 movements based on German texts by Jakob Boehme, Maler Müller, Ingeborg Bachmann, Rainer Maria Rilke, Osip Mandelstam and Robert Walser. Vanishing Word deals with ambiguous words, ideas and human understanding. Each of Goehr’s chosen texts addresses the ways in which language and meaning diverge over time, and how man and nature become further apart. 

This new version for singers and ensemble features mezzo-soprano Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek and tenor Andrew Fuchs, with Joel Sachs leading The New Juilliard Ensemble.
