Wolfgang Rihm's Drei Waltzer Rings in the New Year

Dec. 19, 2021

Wolfgang Rihm's Drei Waltzer is part of the program "Alles Walzer! – Konzert zum Jahreswechsel", a New Year's celebration, at the Staatstheater Cottbus in Germany. The dates of the performances, featuring the Philharmonisches Orchester under the baton of Johannes Zurl, are December 31, 2021 and January 1, 2022. Concert organizers note:

"The great art and diversity of the waltz can be admired in the concerts at the turn of the year. Long-running favorites by 'Waltz King' Johann Strauss and operetta jewels by Stolz and Lehár should, of course, not be missing from the program. In addition, ballet music by Tchaikovsky, Bernstein, Chatschaturjan and Ibert show how the waltz is interpreted internationally. Songs by Gustav Mahler and Johannes Brahms - surprises in waltz time - offer moving breaks from dancing."

Listen to a movement from Worfgang Rihm's Akt und Tag (2006):

(Akt und Tag: Act I: Andante, molto sostenuto, tenebroso intimissimo/Arditti String Quartet)
