Wolfgang Rihm at the Badische Staatskapelle
Jun. 28, 2011
Wolfgang Rihm continues his musical exploration of the feminine subconscious with his latest work Eine Strasse, Lucile, which premieres with the Badische Staatskapelle on July 9 at the Badische Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, Germany. A concert scene for orchestra based on the French Revolution drama Danton’s Death written by George Büchner in 1835, the piece uses as its central character Lucile Duplessis, whose unwavering devotion to her husband Camille Desmoulins, Georges Danton’s fellow revolutionary, and the French rebel cause results in her execution in 1794. Jochem Hochstenbach leads the Badische Staatskapelle in the July 9 premiere with soprano Diana Tomsche.
