Vijay Iyer Joins Schott Music

Schott Music is delighted to announce the signing of an exclusive worldwide concert music publishing agreement with pianist and composer Vijay Iyer.

Celebrated as a visionary musician, composer and writer, Vijay Iyer has been called "one of the world's most inventive new-generation jazz pianists" (The Guardian) and "an American treasure" (Minnesota Public Radio).

Norman Ryan, Vice President for Composers and Repertoire, comments:

Pianist, composer, bandleader, producer, electronic musician, and writer, Vijay Iyer is a polymath in the truest sense of the word. He is a leader across a wide range of disciplines, but his extraordinary talent as a pianist and composer has caught the world's attention and led to an impressive array of creative collaborations with filmmakers, choreographers, orchestras, chamber and new music ensembles. We're thrilled to begin a collaboration with Vijay Iyer and the entire Schott Music team worldwide looks forward to supporting and expanding awareness of his unique voice and talent.

Vijay Iyer says:

It's a true honor to see my growing body of concert works represented and published by Schott Music. Schott's legendary catalog has been a home to many of my friends, colleagues, and living influences, and of course many of my favorite composers of the past. I am thrilled to join their ranks and I look forward to a fruitful partnership in the years to come.

A 2013 MacArthur Fellow, Iyer is also the recipient of a 2012 Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, as well as an unprecedented "quintuple crown" in the 2012 Down Beat International Critics Poll (winning in the categories of Jazz Artist of the Year, Pianist of the Year, Jazz Album of the Year, Jazz Group of the Year and Rising Star Composer). Iyer's recent album, Mutations, released on ECM records, has been widely praised for its "gripping sonic portraits that are at once provocative and accessible, intellectually substantive and sensuously attractive" (The Chicago Tribune).

Recent works include Time, Place, Action, a string quartet premiered by the Brentano String Quartet in February, as well as Bruits for woodwind quintet and piano (premiered by Cory Smythe and the Imani Winds), Dig the Say (premiered by the Brooklyn Rider String Quartet), and RADHE RADHE: Rites of Holi, a multimedia performance piece and collaboration with filmmaker Prashant Bhargava commissioned by Carolina Performing Arts in commemoration of the centenary of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring.

Iyer returns to BAM's Next Wave Festival in December with a program titled "Vijay Iyer: Music of Transformation" featuring the world premiere of a solo piece for piano, commissioned by BAM; his recent suite Mutations I-X for piano, electronics and string quartet; and his shimmering score to Prashant Bhargava's film Radhe Radhe: Rites of Holi, screened with accompaniment by Iyer and the International Contemporary Ensemble.
