Victoria Borisova-Ollas's Dracula "tremendously good" with the Royal Swedish Opera

Nov. 01, 2017

Victoria Borisova-Ollas's Dracula "tremendously good" with the Royal Swedish Opera

On October 28, the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm presented the world premiere of Victoria Borisova-Ollas' new opera Dracula to wide acclaim in the Swedish press.

Commissioned in 2011 by the Royal Swedish Opera under the leadership of Birgitta Svendén, Dracula features a haunting, cinematic score to tell the classic story, adapted from the eponymous novel by Bram Stoker. Linus Fellbom's production, hailed as "tremendously good" in the Financial Times, sets the scene in Victorian London with breathtaking visuals. Performances continue through December 7.

On November 1 at the Konserthuset Stockholm, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic performed Borisova-Ollas' Angelus under the direction of Andrey Boreyko. Composed for the 850th anniversary of the city of Munich, Angelus features hints of birdsong, Celtic chant, and the bells of Munich's Peterskirche.
