Valgeir Sigurðsson's <em>Dreamland</em> with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

On April 30, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra gives a performance of Valgeir Sigurðsson’s Dreamland, a large-scale orchestral work with electronics and film, as part of the orchestra’s inaugural INfusion Festival. The new three-day event focuses on and celebrates the connections between music and the environment. Jayce Ogren conducts the orchestra at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis.

Sigurðsson composed Dreamland in 2009 as the score for Andri Snær Magnason's political documentary of the same name, which deals with the destruction and exploitation of natural resources in Sigurðsson’s home country of Iceland. It is based on the book “Dreamland: A Self-Help Manual for a Frightened Nation” by Icelandic author Andri Snær Magnason, who directed the documentary along with Þorfinnur Guðnason. Sigurðsson, who co-founded the Bedroom Community record label in 2006, turned to his labelmates as collaborators, including Nico Muhly, Daníel Bjarnason, Ben Frost, and Sam Amidon.
