US Premiere of Gavin Bryars's The Voice of St. Columba

On May 11, the virtuosic vocal sextet, Variant 6, and the Prometheus Chamber Orchestra join forces to present the US premiere of Gavin Bryars’s The Voice of St. Columba at the Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia, PA. The program also features works by J.S. Bach and Gustav Holst.

A distinguished composer of vocal music and opera (in particular, Marilyn Forever, which has just completed a run at the Volksoper Wien), Bryars has composed a number of sacred and secular works for voice(s) both unaccompanied and with instruments in various configurations. These works include his Laude for solo voice(s) a cappella as well as large-scale works for soloists with orchestra such as The War in Heaven and I have heard it said that a spirit enters.
