Universal Edition Describes the Digital Distribution of Sheet Music Published via Scodo

May. 01, 2021

Last March, Universal Edition announced the launch of their new publishing platform, scodo, a web tool designed for composers to publish their own music. UE recently released more information about how scores are digitally and securely shared with performers, noting:

"The sheet music you publish via scodo is distributed digitally via our innovation UE now. When you hire or purchase digital sheet music via the Universal Edition website, you will be connected to our technology partner Newzik – where you will find the sheet music you have obtained. As soon as your customers have completed their purchase or hire transaction, they can upload the respective work to their cloud in the Newzik app or the browser version of Newzik, make markings, and use the sheet music offline in the app.

The advantages of digital sheet music include the possibility to turn the pages of sheet music via foot switch or tapping of your finger, the digital entry of markings and notes – collaboratively and in real time visible on other devices – as well as the import of music files in any format. All your digital sheet music (purchased, hired, uploaded) is united in a library on the device of your choice by means of stable and secure technology. The technology is in use worldwide, in Austria for example at the Vienna State Opera and at the Tonkünstler Orchestra's concerts.

Distributing your digital sheet music through Newzik protects you from unauthorized sharing of your sheet music. Neither the Newzik app nor the browser version of Newzik offer the possibility to download, print, or forward the sheet music. If further digital licences are required for the intended use of your sheet music (e.g. for a performance), these can be purchased from Universal Edition."
