UK Premiere of Jörg Widmann's Das heisse Herz

Christoph Koenig leads the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in the UK premiere of Jörg Widmann's Das heisse Herz on December 12 at Symphony Hall in Birmingham. Jörg Widmann composed his first large-scale song cycle, Das heisse Herz, for Christian Gerhaher and his accompanist Gerold Huber in 2013. After a long search for suitable poems, he landed upon texts by Klabund, Brentano, Härtling, and Heine noting that, "‘Their radically simple and truthful texts go straight to the heart." For his orchestrated version of Das heiße Herz, (composed in 2018, and premiered by Bamberger Symphoniker, led by Jakub Hrůša), Widmann created new tonal colors that add a further level to these profound songs.
