Two Masterpieces by Arvo Pärt Featured on New Release by Anne Akiko Meyers

We are delighted to report that virtuoso violinist Anne Akiko Meyers's new release, Mirror in Mirror, includes two beloved works (in violin and piano versions) by Arvo PärtFratres, and the recording's titular inspiration, Spiegel im Spiegel. The disc also includes selections by Jakub Ciupiński, John Corigliano, Philip Glass, Morton Lauridsen, and Maurice Ravel, highlighting Meyer's identity as a champion of new music as well as standard Romantic works.

Fratres (the original setting for violin and piano) was commissioned by the Salzburg Festival and premiered in Salzburg on August 17th, 1980. Composed in Pärt's Tintinnabuli-style, Fratres allows many different settings because it is not bound to a specific timbre.

Composed in 1978, Spiegel im Spiegel exists in an array of settings (all composed that same year) including arrangements for viola and piano, solo organ, horn and piano, and others.
