World premiere of Agata Zubel's Fireworks at Chopin and his Europe 2018
Jun. 26, 2018
Following close on the heels of her April world premiere of Cleopatra's Songs, Agata Zubel's Fireworks will be given its world premiere performance by the European Youth Orchestra, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, on August 13 during the Chopin and his Europe Festival 2018 in Warsaw, Poland. Subsequent performances take place on August 14 in Berlin, and August 19 in London.
On September 6, Zubel's Bildbeschreibung will be staged at the Transart Festival in Bolzano, Italy. The work was commissioned and will be performed by Klangforum Wien, conducted by Titus Engel, and will feature the composer as soprano soloist along with baritone Frank Wörner. Zubel describes how she faced the problem of representing a picture within the field of sound:
"This frozen dramatic situation, this paused moment, asks for the completion of its unreal being with music. He and her--two singer-actors--are stuck in the picture constantly commenting on their existing position or the alleged path to it. Musicians are also part of the picture.... The planned path through the musically composed space is the passage through the picture."
The world premiere of another new work by Agata Zubel is scheduled for October. Stay tuned to this space for more details!
