The European Union Youth Orchestra Premieres Agata Zubel's Will Winter Be Saved?

Apr. 20, 2026

The European Union Youth Orchestra, whose members are young musicians and citizens of European Union member states, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. A dynamic ensemble, renewed each year, full of youthful passion and commitment, is united in its diversity. The orchestra, conducted by Hugo Ticciati, performed Agata Zubel's latest work, Will Winter Be Saved? The premiere took place on March 10 in Strasbourg at the Pavillon Joséphin, as part of a concert entitled "The [Uncertain] Four Seasons: The Sound of the Planet." The motto of the event was: Will music help us hear the climate of tomorrow?

"The [Uncertain] Four Seasons" is a project that interprets Vivaldi's famous concertos through the prism of a changing planet. The organizers encouraged artists to compose new music based on climate data for all major cities around the world. As they point out: "The [Uncertain] Four Seasons is the sound of our planet, and we are listening to what spring, summer, autumn, and winter might sound like in 2050 in different parts of the world if no further climate action will be taken before 2030. In the piece Will Winter Be Saved?, the composer used data for Iceland (Reykjavik). The work was created with the support of The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
