SONiC Festival Features Baltakas, Greenwood, Norman, Pintscher, Wainwright

From October 14 through the 22, the American Composers Orchestra presents SONiC: Sounds of a New Century, featuring over a dozen events throughout New York City’s leading cultural institutions. The festival also features many of New York’s top new music ensembles performing works by Vykintas Baltakas, Rufus Wainwright, Andrew Norman, Johnny Greenwood, Matthias Pintscher, and many more.

On October 16, the JACK Quartet performs the US premiere of Vykintas Baltakas’ b(ell tree) at Miller Theatre. Also that day, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City performs Rufus Wainwright’s Hope is a Thing of Feathers. On October 17, at Miller Theatre, the Either/Or ensemble, led by Richard Carrick, performs the US premiere of Jonny Greenwood’s smear which features two ondes martenots, played by Marie Bernard and Estelle Lemire. On October 18, Camerata Aberta performs Matthias Pintscher’s shining forth at the Americas Society.

Closing out the festival on October 22, the American Composers Orchestra, led by George Manahan, performs a free concert at the World Financial Center Winter Garden featuring the NY premiere of Andrew Norman’s Unstuck, the composer's brilliant work for full orchestra.
