Sebastian Hilli's Hibernation Premiered by IEMA-Ensemble in Paris

Jun. 23, 2022

On June 30, the Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie premieres Sebastian Hilli's Hibernation for large ensemble, animation, and electronics with video by Jenny Jokela at the Grande Salle of the Centre Georges-Pompidou in Paris. The composer notes:

"Hibernation is an audio-visual exploration of feelings of isolation and depression. The piece delves into the main character’s inner world, where she both longs and dreads to connect with other people, feeling scared of leaving her inner sanctuary. Throughout the piece, we follow how she floats between her stagnant existence and vivid hyper-reality, where the dreamworld at times feels more real than her true mundane existence. The intent of Hibernation is not to give a traditional linear story or instructions of how to overcome loneliness or depression but, through music and video, to give form and expression to abstract and intangible emotions, which anyone who experiences isolation can connect to and feel less alone."
